Allowing us to admire the whiteness of the petals, inebriating with the carnality of its aroma. As in a game of mirrors, however, Serge Lutens shows us the morbid side of faith, of every faith, be it earthly or otherworldly, the sin within holiness; he mixes the whiteness of the snow, returned by pure notes of incense, with the humid smell of the skin under the black robes, blending the ascent with the carnal notes of civet and musk.

La Religieuse bears the signature of Christopher Sheldrake, already co-creator of masterpieces such as A la Nuit and Sarrasins, where however the jasmine had a very different nature, more earthly and direct. Here Sheldrake takes an ecstatic jasmine to olfactory extremes, indolic even in its pure notes and dark at the same time. The precise, surgical choice of the most animalistic notes refers to a now mythical theme in the Lutens house: the ambivalence of reality. Nobody like Serge Lutens manages to reveal the shadows of life, with the elegance that distinguishes him.
