Cafè Tabac existed even before it was created: Iconic 90s bar in New York's East Village. Bar frequented by famous stars who, there, stripped themselves of their roles and where the pre-cellular era was alive, today so far away as to be dedicated to it.

Cafè Tabac is a party that doesn't want to end and almost unconsciously goes on for days. A night under the stars, where the sky is black as coal and the smoke meets the flower, and in the passion of spices they intersect to give life to a passionate and sexy merengue.


"It is the profound mood of a cult place that creates its legend" says perfumer Bertrand Duchufour. "The deep blue smoke of cigarettes, cigars, weed...whatever. We are always searching for multiple paradises: laughter, desires, pleasures, again and again."


This spirit was also present when Duchaufour and Grestner were exploring the Dominican Republic for another olfactory project last year. "It was an explosion of vibrant, chic people from Mexico, France, Rio, New York; different cultures, conversations, ideas and opinions," says Gerstner. " We traveled together from a tropical forest to the coast, but it wasn't until we found ourselves in a cigar factory that I looked at Bertrand and asked him, "Can you put all this in a bottle?"


The result is dazzling, sexy and complex like the journey lotus: it opens with sparkling notes of Bergamot and unexpected fruits such as Apples and Tamarind, but the scent is a tribute to tobacco in its various forms. Dry leaves, moist flowers and a cigar lit by the fire are represented by Sclerea Sage and Davana, a nuance of Mango with dried Fig and Date and a rough smokiness of Tobacco Absolute, Tar, Cade and Cedar Wood. An Amber accord of secretions and sugars of Cistus Lebdano, Ambergris, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Cocoa Accord and Peru Balsam in the heart, gives way to a dark, rich and resinous base. The characteristic scent of Burnt Sugar, fresh Cloves and Cardamom are infused with vapors that keep Cafè Tabac multi-faceted rather than perfectly rounded.

Blended at a concentration of 20% created following the style of the old school of high perfumery which includes a month's maceration in France


NOSE: Bertrand Duchaufour

His career began in Grasse in 1985 in Florasynth and Symrise under the supervision of great Master Perfumers. Famous for his unusual and deeply personal compositions, he is considered a star among connoisseurs, as well as an artist.

Even today his fragrances are mixed by hand, a now rare luxury in this artisanal world.

His passion remains such that he himself goes around the world to find raw materials and works them by hand.
