It's a liquid that smells like it's been infused with saffron and patchouli-edged petals, in a palette that veers from fresh rose territory to a vintage, like blowing the dust off a fine red wine.

Its first inhalation captures a moment just after dusk on a languid late autumn evening, when the slamming of a door brings a whiff from a bouquet that breaks the stagnant air. This rose is not a deep red or pale pink, but a pastel purple so pale it almost looks gray. Its petal edges are just starting to curl, opening, with a fullness that mimics the shape of a bulbous teacup, filled with rich spices and rare wood chunks.

Its composition was inspired by the still life aesthetic of AEDES PROFUMERY, a place on New York City's Lower East Side where abundant arrangements spill out of plump vases alongside feathered taxidermy and vintage fabrics. There's incense in the air and probably a blotter under your nose. The name comes from a variety of rose grown in France. While its odor is faint, its visual appearance evokes a vintage look that has been translated into AMNESIA ROSE.

NOSE: LUCA MAFFEI: He spent years capturing the essence of perfumery in a bottle, imparting peppery and mysterious tones over time, and being sure to create something that works on anyone's skin. "This is an intense rose, whose personality never fades and, above all, never goes unnoticed," says Maffei. To create a sustained bloom with woody spice, he juxtaposed Moroccan rose absolute and Bulgarian rose essence with cypriol oil, saffron and succulent bushman candle. A sparkling pink pepper is immediately felt; but the initial sparkle of AMNESIA ROSE is soon replaced by a satin density that crosses over to meet a dry earthy cushion of labdanum, patchouli and oud.
