Penhaligon's
Discover Penhaligon's perfumes. William Henry Penhaligon, a brilliant Cornish native barber, settled in London around 1868 and opened a Barber shop on Jermyn Street, in the immediate vicinity of the famous Hammam Turkish Baths, then frequented by the best London society.A man of great talent and initiative, in moments free from work he devoted himself to experimenting with original mixtures of perfumes and essences, so much so that at the beginning of 1870 he had set up a small house with his name that supplied toilet waters, perfumes and ointments to the exclusive clientele of the Turkish Baths. His first perfume and also his favorite, dedicated to this demanding and refined clientele, saw the light in 1872 and was called Hammam Bouquet. This was followed by many others including, still in great demand, the Blenheim Bouquet used by Sir Winston Churchill.
